"What're You Doing New Year's?"

THE "PRIM DROP" IS UPON US

Guest post by Marianne McCann

BAY CITY, SL (26th December, 2016) — Citizens of Bay City, Second Life's® city by the bay, will be marking the end of the year in fine fashion, attending the annual "Prim Drop" in the Bay City Fairgrounds in North Channel on the evening of the 31st of December. The party will include an hour-long set of DJed tunes presented by Marianne McCann, as well as fireworks and other festive fun. Food and drink will also be provided for all attendees.

The event is presented as an outdoor, high-class, wintertime soirĂ©e, and black tie attire and/or full dress is requested. All Second Life® Residents are welcome to attend and ring in the New Year with the Bay City community.

This will also be the last event within Bay City this year for donating to Child's Play Charity. Child's Play is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that offers online communities such as ours an opportunity to help seriously ill children around the globe during their hospital stays with the purchase of games and gaming equipment.

As of the 24th of December, Bay City has raised L$151,408 for Child's Play Charity through their annual silent auction and tree lighting concert, as well as other local events.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest group for Residents of Bay City.

"And I Would Walk 500 Miles..."

A question: would any of you lovely readers be interested in taking periodic group walks across the Mainland? Ziki and are planning to organize just such a walk in November, and we hope to have YOU join us! Plan on fun and silliness as we explore the vast expanses of the Second Life Mainland together

The first walk will be held on Sunday, November 13 from 2-2:30 PM SLT.

We will start on Rte. 5 in front of Cael Ystafell, our home on Heterocera, and walk along the tracks of the Second Life Railroad, ending at a super sekrit location for fun and merriment!

When I was a little girl, my grandmother often took me for walks on the nearby railroad tracks. We'd walk, chat, stop to pick blueberries and have picnics. I have several sets of railroad tracks near my home in first life, and I still enjoy those kinds of walks. So, while there are many Mainland roads we could explore in the future, I decided to take advantage of the tracks near our house, and start there! If you'd like to walk with us, please contact me inworld or by email at kinnaird.fiachra@gmail.com...or just show up! We'll have a group joiner for any future adventures set up at the starting point.

We'd love to have LOTS of people joining in on the fun - imagine a whole gaggle of avatars walking the SLRR rails! To get you in the mood, here's a clip from one of my favorite cheesy 80's movies, "Benny and Joon," set to The Proclaimers "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)". We hope to see you in November!

Hot Bay City Nights

Have you been spending a lot of time exploring the Mainland by car lately? If so, that's music to my ears, but I'm sure your car is absolutely covered in pixel dust by now, and could use a good wash. Or, have you been looking for that perfect vehicle to assist you in your wanderings? Well, tonight is your lucky night! Come on down to the Bay City Fairgrounds at 7:00 PM SLT, browse the vintage car show, and get your car washed for charity! Ace reporter Marianne McCann provides all the pertinent details below, although she did forget to mention that we also wash motorcycles, other assorted vehicles, and even the occasional dinosaur. It's all a part of Hot Bay City Nights - the hottest week in the hottest city on the Grid!

HOT BAY CITY NIGHTS 2016
Second Life® event features vintage automakers.
by guest reporter extraordinaire, Marianne McCann

BAY CITY, SL (18 August 2016) - Celebrating Bay City's mid-century theme as well as its vast network of roadways, the "Hot Bay City Nights" event in Second Life® showcase vehicle makers who create automobiles from the Bay City "theme era," stretching from 1940 to 1965.

The event is held in the the Bay City Fairgrounds, in the North Channel region, from the 20-27th of August to present the best in vintage and retro vehicles. Each designer is hand-picked, and presents great road vehicles for use in Second Life.

Additional events will provide plenty for all to do, including the crowning of the 2016 Miss Bay City on the 27th, and a series of virtual car washes for charity. The next one of these virtual car washes will be held tonight, Tuesday, August 23 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. SLT.

The event will raise funds for Child's Play Charity, an organization that provides toys and games for children in hospitals around the world. Bay City is a silver-level sponsor of Child's Play.

Bay City's 8th Anniversary Celebration

Each year in May, the residents of Bay City celebrate their anniversary. To give you more information about this year's celebration, please welcome guest reporter Marianne McCann!

BAY CITY TURNS EIGHT, ANNOUNCES CELEBRATION
by Marianne McCann, Ace Reporter for the Bay City Post

In May of 2008, the regions of Bay City were opened to Second Life® residents for the first time. Over the last eight years, the area has grown into one of the most vibrant of mainland communities, boasting a long-time community focus. To honor the anniversary, Bay City Residents will be hosting their annual parade and live music event this May.

Please join us for a parade on Sunday, 15th May, starting from the bandshell in Bay City - Harwich and traveling down Route 66 and Park Place to the Bay City Fairgrounds at North Channel! A live concert will follow the parade, kicking off at 12:30 p.m. SLT at the Fairgrounds with GoSpeed Racer of KONA Stream providing music leading into the event, followed by musicians Zachh Cale, Maximillion Kleen, and Noma Falta.

All Residents of the Second Life grid are welcomed to participate in the parade and the music event — not only Residents of Bay City. Participants in the annual parade are asked to gather at noon SLT on Sunday, the 15th of May, to lineup at the band shell in Bay City - Harwich. We are looking for festive outfits, unique avatars, costumes, floats, Macy's parade-style balloons, marching bands, stilt walkers, dancers, kids on bikes, dancers, drill teams — you name it! Come and represent your own special part of Second Life! For those who don't wish to be a part of the parade, but would rather watch, ample viewing areas are provided, including one in Falconmoon and one in Orleans.

Want to participate but need ideas on how to make a float? Your best bet is to make 'em as a wearable attachment, not a vehicle. Due to some of the difficulties with 'em last year, we would prefer to avoid vehicles as much as possible. Also, they'll make your experience better, too! Celebration goods, including parade float bases and ideas, are available at the Bay City Community Center in the Daley Bay region for those who wish to be a part of the parade. Then, please share your photos of the event to your mySL feed, Snapzilla, or Flickr! We even have Flickr and Snapzilla groups! Come on down and join the fun on the 15th, and help Bay City celebrate!

Airship Show - Tradewinds Yacht Club

Starting on April 30 and running through Sunday, May 15, is an extravaganza Airship Show at the Tradewinds Yacht Club (TYC) in Dex. Visitors will get to see a great variety of balloons, dirigibles and airships (see photo, below); only one of each kind was solicited for the show. I spoke to TYC's Harbormaster, Ahab Quandry, who told me, "We have shows every so often, maybe as many as six per year. There are some amazing builds at this particular show, most I don't remember seeing before."

Ahab, pictured below, speaking about the yacht club itself, said, "TYC is one of the oldest clubs in the sailing world and it has been in this location for about 7 years.  We are more relaxed here I think than some of the others and have no rule book as such. There are several sort of unwritten rules but they are more about being polite to our fellows and that sort of thing." The description of the yacht club states, "Home to the independent minded sailor. What we're about is just having fun without the politics. You're welcome to launch your sailboat here and sail." Continued Ahab, "Well, apart from putting on shows and the occasional races we sort of pride ourselves as being one, if not the most, friendliest place to come to.  Everyone (who behaves) is welcome and most of the regulars will always jump in to help a newbie to sailing or boating."

The Tradewinds Yacht Club is located in Nautilus, right at the edge of the Blake Sea. It is a very busy location; I saw a great number of boats sailing past and planes flying overhead while I was there. There are inexpensive boats for sale there, 7Seas fishing gear vendors, and of course, the airships. You might spot colorful balloons, flying pirate ships, and even the Bay City blimp, pictured below. Why not stop over and have a look, and perhaps investigate the joys of sailing in SL while you're there? The airship show will remain at the club for the next two weeks.
